Spring Semester

I added all the code and research projects I completed in my previous semester at ISU. Two new Git projects and one new publication.

The Go learning method failed, but provided some interesting results. It also has code that properly generates Go games from GNUGo as well as a system for representing Go games and stepping through them. This could be used to test out other theories with some simple modification. I did a write-up on it which is now listed under publications (and also in the publications repository).

The Swing based SVG editor is extremely basic and loves to chew up CPU cycles. It was probably the only Java project I actually enjoyed doing so it's here for a good Swing reference, mostly for myself, and also for if I ever get bored and need something to code. That's not likely to happen, though.

Tons of New Stuff

A year and a half later I resurface. No I'm not dead, and I haven't abandoned anything yet. Here's a big update for you.

I have not abandoned Surrogafier. If you check the development branch in Git, then yes you can see it's been awhile since I've touched it, but I will be correcting this and there is so much changed that I will be skipping the 1.0 release entirely since it's a stupid number for what I will have done. Probably will be 1.1 or even 2.0! I have some really cool things in there such as regression testing, so it will improve in time.

The entire forums feature has been removed due to spam issues. Everything meaningful was drown out by all the spam accounts advertising random crap, so I just removed it. If you find a bug or want to contact me, use the contact link from now on.

I have decided to publish a short story of mine I wrote quite a few years ago. I always wanted it published somewhere so I figure why not here, even if it's not about programming. Keep in mind I wrote that story more than 3 and a half years ago, but constructive criticism would be nice. The LaTeX and Lout source of the PDF can be found in the Git repositories. I have also updated the "My Awesome System" article to be more up to date with my forever changing system. Since I am now up to two pieces of writing, I have created a mini "Publications" section on the side bar to store both documents.

I have also created a new type of project, a "Git project", which is basically a project that only gets explained or distributed through Git. This will allow me to publish the hundreds of scripts that I write that never go past my ow
n computer in an easy way, so that means there will be more projects showing up here and much more frequently.

To get things started, I have added six new projects for you to check out. If they lack documentation or explanation you can email me about it and I'll be happy to help. These projects are more likely to not have documentation, thou
gh. The new projects are: ifsetup, IYT_stat, MusDB, MySQL_ERD, QStart, and SecDB.

Since things are going to get a bit more interesting on this site as far as news items, I decided to create an RSS feed to keep people updated. Even though the Git projects will not have version numbers (more than likely), I will still create news items for new projects and for projects that have major updates to them. Without RSS, It was probably quite annoying checking the site every 6 months to see if it was updated, and finding out it hadn't.

I don't plan on going into hiding for long periods of time again.

LFWrap 1.1 Release

New version of LFWrap. This program is now at a point where basically all useful functionality of DreamWeaver can be replicated by any other editor. At this point, I have no new features planned, and will be focusing on fixing bugs if necessary.

This release adds support for getting and putting files, recursively clearing all locks under a specified directory, and various bug fixes and optimizations.

New project released, LFWrap.

LFWrap is an executable wrapper for creating DreamWeaver style lock files for other editors. LFWrap is written in C++, and is cross platform (Windows and Linux tested).

I've written an article detailing "My Awesome Secure and Portable System". Fairly lengthy and very technical, so if you're interested in Linux security, check it out.

I also want to say that although I haven't posted anything or released anything since last May, I'm still working on stuff. The blocks of time I have to work on stuff is shorter, so I have more time to think of new features and new ideas, which means it's harder to get to the point where I feel a project is ready to be released. I've rewritten basically everything in Surrogafier, added so many features that people have requested, and fixed an incredible amount of bugs. I have no idea when it will be ready to be released, though.

I'm also aware that the GIT repository is broken. I'm working remaking that because the way I was doing it was really stupid. Hopefully I'll have this fixed soon.

I've been getting used to a couple new projects. First is Ion, which is an awesome window manager, and the second is GIT, a source code management system developed by Linus Torvalds.

I've always refrained from using source control management only because it required too much resources to use. GIT seems to solve all those problems, and has now become an integral part of my development process.

I have a GIT web viewer available [url=http://git.bcable.net/]here[/url], and hopefully soon you'll be able to pull the repository in some way.

I plan on having nightly-ish backups of my development branches available on the GIT server. It looks like I haven't done much recently, but that's because I've been keeping a few upcoming projects secret. They still have a long ways to go, but hopefully they'll be up here sometime in the next couple of months.

I also hope to get a version 1.0 of Surrogafier and a new release of SQLIer done sometime before the end of August.

Surrogafier 1.0-rc3 released. One major and one minor bug were fixed, and a couple optimization changes in the code.

Surrogafier 1.0-rc2 Release

Surrogafier 1.0-rc2 released. This version contains many speed improvements and parsing fixes.

In the forums, I have added the 'nofollow' parameter to all links posted and homepages for users. Link spammers take note: spamming my site will no longer affect your search rankings whatsoever. I don't really have much traffic anyway so I have no idea why I'm a prime target for this.

Forum Feature Completed

I have finished coding the forums, and they are now active. All past news items and bug reports have been converted into forum threads, and can be replied to by users. If you have any problems with them, please send me an email.

Since there was no centralized user system on the bug reporting feature, all previous bugs are labelled as "Anonymous". If you register for an account and send me an email, I'll change the label to your new account if the IP addresses match.

Some Features Disabled Due to Spam

Bug reporting feature has been temporarily disabled. There was an excessive amount of spam bugs reported for various things (129 to be exact).

In the coming weeks, I'm going to finish the forum feature and have a centralized user system for the site. People are going to have to verify their email addresses, I'll probably use captchas, etc. I didn't want to add these things until it was necessary, since they make it more difficult for people to communicate. Nobody likes to go through sign ups and such, but unfortunately it's now necessary.

I hope to get these features up and running soon. For now, if you find a bug, report it through the contact form.

New Feature: Polls

Poll feature has been finished, and the question is currently "What should Surrogafier be named?". I've gotten a couple suggestions, I made up a few of my own, and want to know which one the users prefer. I retain the ability to veto the users' choice if I grow attached to a name, though.

Surrogafier 1.0-rc1 Release

After 2 months of working, I've decided to just release all my progress toward a stable release for Surrogafier, and calling it Surrogafier 1.0-rc1!

Basically, I went around finding bugs and problems, which led me to rewrite a large portion of the code in Surrogafier. This got out of hand, though, because I never got to a point where I considered myself anywhere near "done". Because of this, the changelog for this release is MASSIVE.

I still have many bugs found that I haven't yet fixed, and also many more bugs that people have reported that have not been fixed. So here's the "schedule" for future releases.

I'm going to add all the features that I haven't gotten around to adding yet, as well as try to fix all the bugs on my personal list, to come to a "1.0-rc2" release.

From there, I'm going to address all of the bugs reported via the bug reporting engine, and any email requests that I haven't gotten to, to release a "1.0-rc3" version.

Finally, I'm going to address any more bugs with the new code and finally update the documentation, description, and other texts regarding the script, to create the greatest release of them all, "1.0".

This week I am also going to add a polling feature on the side bar with a bunch of options for what I should name "Surrogafier". I'm not sure I want to keep this name, so I'll let you, the users, decide.

It has also been suggested to me that I add a forum for the site, which I agree is a good idea. It will help add more interactivity, and allow me to discuss ideas for projects, features, etc.

Proxifier Renamed to Surrogafier

There is much ambiguity over the name "Proxifier" (there are about 5 different people who use it), causing my rankings in search results to not be very high. To combat this, I have changed the name of my "Proxifier" project to "Surrogafier".

I'm open to new suggestions for a new name. If one of you comes up with a better name than the current one, please send me an email. If more than one good name comes up, then I'll create a poll to see which one you, the users, prefer.

You might also notice that I haven't released anything in the past month. Well, this is because I'm attempting to come up with a relatively stable version of Surrogafier and SQLIer. I hope to release these within the next few weeks.

IE and Opera Site Bugs Fixed

Site layout fixed! A day ago I would have thought it crazy that I would be able to fix the many many Internet Explorer bugs. Today, I have unexpectedly come up with solutions to almost every bug this layout had with Internet Explorer.

There is still a very minor bug in Opera and IE with the screenshots, and IE also has one or two other little bugs, but for the most part it is very viewable now.

New Site and Features

New site layout, as well as new features on the site! Most of the updates are cosmetic, but there are a couple new features as well.

New built in bug reporting for every project with comments, so that all bugs are publicly known as well as discussable. If you have reported a bug that has not been fixed yet, please report it again on the specific page.

After almost a whole year of the contact page saying "soon, there will be a form to use below.", there finally is an email form on the contact page!
